Types of Coffee Makers and Espresso Machines

When it comes to brewing delicious coffee and espresso, there are more choices than ever! The brew style that is chosen depends on a number of factors, including  convenience, quality, taste, and preference in consistency.

  • Filter Coffee Maker: This is a traditional coffee maker that uses drip brewing through a filter. Hot water will be poured through coffee grounds held in a filter, and the brew product will drip into a carafe or coffee pot below. These are convenient electric machines.
  • French Press: This is a method of manual coffee brewing. Coffee grounds and hot water will be placed within the French Press, and they will be allowed to steep for four minutes. From that point, the plunger of the press will be pressed down to separate the coffee grounds from the brew. This is a preferred coffee brewing method because it leaves essential oils in the final brew product for a deeper flavor and taste.
  • Espresso Steam Machine: This is a method of brewing espresso that is less expensive, but it can also be lower quality. The machine uses pressurized steam to push water through espresso grounds, but it often times is not enough pressure to produce a quality shot of espresso.
  • Espresso Pump Machine: This machine works to pump water into a tank to create pressure to push water through the espresso grounds. These machines keep water pressure at a higher level to constantly ensure a professional shot of espresso.

Espresso Piston Machine: This is authentic espresso brewing for experienced espresso makers. This is a traditional method of extracting espresso, and it uses a manual method to store up pressure in the machine to push water through the espresso grounds. This will work through pulling a lever that is connected to a piston. This is a more difficult machine to use, but it can produce a premium espresso
